| Rip.
Ouch.
Wipe.
"Oopsies...."
Well, okay, now there was a little blood smeared on her hand and arm where the IV came out, but she didn't need that thing! Stupid. Or maybe that was just her defiance to being physically healthy, she didn't know... but now she wanted to go somewhere.
Aimee stepped out of her room in the ward and started looking around the small hallway for a room to visit, anyone... there were probably tons of people she hadn't met yet, and she wanted to see them all! So she looked around the long corridor and traipsed towards a door that was closed, then tried the handle as quietly as she could--success!
Carefully Aimee pushed the door open and stepped in (since she weighed very little it was no problem to go in without making much noise) and looked over to see a teenaged boy sitting up in his bed. Hmm, no, she definitely had not met him before!
"Hi! I'm Aimee, what's your name?" she asked, promptly dragging a chair over to his bedside and sitting down.

| Matt didn't awake with a quick start. He came into consciousness very slowly. Everything, sounds, awareness, thoughts, and even memories, were fuzzy. Matt laid there as he tried to collect himself. Unable to clear his confusion, he forced open his eyes.
He regretted the decision as he snapped said eyes back shut. Light flooded in and blinded the boy, making him even more uncomfortable. He tried once more to open his ocular organs, this time, slowly to adjust to the overpowering light. He succeeded as his vision adjusted to view the whitewashed ceiling. Blinking twice, the blond glanced back and forth.
Where am I?
He thought, swallowing slowly as he began to stir. For a few moments, he felt utterly and entirely lost. What had happened? Where the heck was he? Why was he here?
Then the memories smacked him in the face like a wet noodle.
Fainting. Something entirely different from sleep. When you fall asleep, you can never pinpoint the exact moment that you lost consciousness. However, fainting is entirely different. You can feel yourself slip away. Feel the energy drain from your body until your mind, the last component, goes black. Matt had fainted before because of his anemia, and frankly, he could never get used to the feeling.
Regardless, Matt was able to guess that he was in some clinic, hospital, or even the nurse's office. He had been in this situation once before when he was first diagnosed with anemia. And thus, the boy hated hospitals. He did not like doctors. He did not like people touching him. He did not like the ambiance of the sterilized environment. He liked his room. where he felt most secure. Here, he felt unstable. He wanted to go home. He wanted to be in a familiar place. And sad enough, he wanted his old white bear, Kumayoshi... or something. He could never remember what he initially named it, but it started with a K.
Restless, Matt decided to sit up. However, this was not the best action for the still-groggy anemiac to take. A wave of dizziness spilled over him, forcing him to thrust his arms back in support so he would not collapse back down. His face paled, near white as he gasped for breath. His anemia had never been this bad. What was wrong with him?
"Hi! I'm Aimee, what's your name?"
Matt blinked, forcing his nausea back as he glanced up, an outline of a figure directly flanking his left. The boy squinted at the figure, whom he presumed to be female by the name and voice pitch. However, his glasses were not upon his face and he couldn't deduce anything else. She was a blend of colors to him, contrasting sharply to the white of the room. Matt blinked once more, realizing that the girl had indeed started a conversation with him. "Oh... um.." he started, focusing his attention to her. "Uh... Matthew. Matt's fine..." he said, lacking the energy to rattle off any other nicknames that he had gotten. Then he realized that he hadn't even greeted her. "Eh... by the way, hello," he added quietly, looking away from her blurry form.

| Oh dear, he was very shaky, wasn't he? Aimee tilted her head slightly as she watched him gradually set in a state bound for disaster--she worried almost immediately. He tried sitting up, he nearly fell down again, and she noticed what little color was in his face was purely and absolutely gone. She stood and leaned behind him slightly to adjust his pillow, then got up to grab another from a lower cupboard (hah, she was glad she'd been in the hospital a little longer than he, because she figured out where extra things were) and hurried back over to him.
She was a nurse by no standards, but--she did worry for people a lot. And this teen was clearly very, very ill, and she almost wondered why he wasn't in intensive care. Slowly Aimee placed the pillow behind him and on top of the other one, so he would have something to prop him up, and gently gripped his shoulder with her left hand, and his hand in her right, and lowered him back onto the pillows. His ashen skin against her dark skin made her more worried, though... should she call a nurse in? He looked so faint, so ready to slip into unconsciousness once again... the gasping was also quite unsettling, and she found herself mumbling comforting things to the other teen while she continued to stand by him, quite literally.
"Rest your voice, you'll exhaust yourself, Matt. Wow, do you need water? Um... a nurse? Another pillow? ... Anything?" she asked, hardly aware that she was contradicting herself with her own questions. She squeezed his pale hand gently and released it after a moment, still just looking at the poor young man who found himself confused and almost lost in a hospital.

| The figure whom Matt could not identify moved quickly, her actions unknown to the nearly blind boy. He heard her light footfalls dart away, as if she were frightened by his appearance. Matt mused to himself, but couldn't deny the sadness that roused within his chest. Even at the hospital, he wasn't really liked.
However, the girl...or... someone else reappeared, maneuvering behind Matt, which made him worry. What were they doing? He felt some object press against his supporting arm, which he retracted as he leaned forward. Though, his action was stopped as a hand, gentle and barely present, clasped his shoulder. As this happened, another hand gripped his own. Matthew tensed. He did not like physical contact. In all 17 years of his life, he could never get used to the sense of touch. He did not like being touched, nor did he like touching. He did not like being carried, handled, or moved. Perhaps it was because Matt had a lack of control in his life. Whatever the reason, he did not appreciate the grasp.
However, Matt did not say such. He was forcefully laid back onto his pillow, though the person was very gentle. He couldn't help but notice that he was elevated much more than the last time he had been leaning back. Someone must have propped something up. How kind... Even though this person was indeed touching him, he wasn't angry or upset. They were doing it out of kindness and care for him. These were things that he rarely received, so he allowed his comfort to be sacrificed for the caring gesture.
Then he realized that this was all still... still... that girl. Matt was absolutely terrible with names. Haylee? was that it? No... Matt's lips pursed slightly as he battled the nausea to think. What had she told him? Anna? No... The blond blinked as he say the figure so close. What he could deduce was that her skin was a lot darker than his. Her hair was a darker color as well... some shade of brown. The details of her face however, were still unknown and blurred.
The girl then politely told him to shush and reared the statement by asking him a question. Matt blinked twice at her before his lips pulled into a small smile. Now, how was he supposed to respond to that? Well, he knew how, but still. He could probably use his iron pills; after all, he didn't know how long he had been out. What if he was low? But.. at school, he definitely had taken his medication. Were they not strong enough anymore? Even so, he didn't want her to call a nurse. Even if he had fainted in front of his class and been reduced to a pale boy in a hospital bed, he still had pride within him. That masculine pride prevented him from calling for a doctor at this moment. He was a big boy. Maybe he couldn't take care of himself right now, but he'd sure as heck try.
Anyhow, Anne's (whatever, her name currently eluded his mind) ramblings amused him. Even if he felt sick to his stomach, her efforts had made him feel a smidget better. Laying back helped sooth the dizzy spells. But, what he could ask, would clarify a few questions. "Heh, could I have my glasses?" he inquired, wondering if they had fallen off his face when he passed out. He hoped not, but it was possible. Little did he know that his spectacles sat on the bedside table, invisible in Matt's poor eyesight.

| She offered him a kind smile as he got himself acquainted with the pillows that now helped him sit up, carefully seating herself back in the chair beside his bed and relaxing somewhat against the stiff plastic. Quietly she mused to herself as she watched the deathly pale boy--despite his sickly appearance and how... out of place and ill at ease he looked, he could look quite handsome. He was very different to the other boy in the ward she liked sitting with so much, Matthew was much quieter... although, she could credit that somewhat to the fact that he was literally gasping for air whenever he moved too much.
But still, she could already tell he was different to the American boy who requested she eat with him daily (somehow she was still managing to remove the food from her plate without ingesting any of it)--Matthew, or Matt, however he wanted to be addressed, seemed like he was ordinarily quiet and reserved, rather than only due to his apparent illness.
"Oh, wow, of course you can have your glasses!" she responded, looking vaguely around until she found the spectacles on the table beside his bed, and Aimee grinned at them while carefully opening the glasses and holding them out to him. "Here you go! Ah, are you really sure you don't need a doctor...? Wow, you just look so faint, will you really be alright without one? No matter, I'll stay here in case you do! We don't have to talk though, because you probably feel right awful at the moment," the African rambled on, another quirky smile popping across her thin face.
Aimee herself remembered collapsing and waking up in the hospital, which she figured similarly happened to him--no one was that frail from just anything. No, she thought, he would have taken a sickly trip to the ground--which only reminded her of the cuts and scrapes she had received from her collapse in the road. She shuddered slightly from the thought, but still smiled warmly at the other teenager.
"It kind of sucks here at first, but you'll feel a little better soon, I hope," the girl said, folding her unnaturally thin hands and resting them in her lap somewhat daintily.

| Matthew allowed a small smile to appear as the female eagerly agreed to find his glasses. A brief moment settled as the female searched around the perimeter. She seemed to find them as her blur of an outline lurched one way, then back over to him. He squinted at the outstretched fingers, tentatively reaching out to brush the ocular devices. He gently took them from her, fingering the wire frames in his palms in a way that made it easier for him to slip them onto his head. However, he discovered that he didn't need to do such a thing. Annie.. or something, had done it for him. He smiled at her kindness before pushing the spectacles up onto the bridge of his nose.
Then everything snapped into focus.
Blinking wildly, Matt flashed his gaze around the room, everything now clarified. The blurry white wall was in fact a white cabinet, filled with shelves, drawers and openings. The bed, the one he barely took note of before, was white with a few thin blankets piled over him for warmth. A silver railing was pulled up on all four sides, keeping him in place in case he decided to make a break for it. Several monitors were also noticed, monitoring some for of vital sign that he had. Lastly, an IV stuck out of his left arm. How he had not noticed it before was beyond him. Man, he must have been in pretty rough shape.
But, Matt's attention to the room vaporized when he finally set sights on the girl. Her dark form now sharp and clear, Matt almost gasped. The girl had rich chocolate hair, collected into two pigtails tied with vivid red ribbons. Matching her hair was mocha kissed skin, tanned by the sun like a toasted marshmallow. Her brown eyes watched his as Matt couldn't help but stare. Even in the context of her baggier hospital clothing, he noticed how abnormally thin she was. Matt had seen thin people. He was not exactly chubby himself. But her? Something was not right. She was too thin. Her bones were visible, her skin tight against the skeletal structure. Matt blinked in wonder. Was that her reason to be in the hospital? Or was the thinness a side-effect to another illness that she had? Was she previously in a coma? That could be legit. Matt wasn't sure, and he figured it impolite to ask. But, one thing was for sure. He remembered her name upon seeing her. Aimee.
The last thing that he noticed was the blood smear on her hand. The red liquid, so precious in Mattie's eyes, was dried. Which meant, she had cut or injured herself a little while ago, probably before she came in here. Still, Matt could help but want her to clean and cover it. Blood was precious, and infections in hospitals were deadly. But he finally decided to respond to her previous questions and statements. "I'll be okay. This is nothing new. And you....your hand..." he said, trailing off as his blue gaze drifted to her arm.
Well, Matt's statement directed the conversation away from him, but he couldn't help but think that his words about himself were only partially true. Matt was well aware of his limitations that he had exceeded today, but this was different. He had never gotten so sick so fast before. Yes he had anemia, but it wasn't normal to just go unconscious like that. The boy shifted slightly, earning a new wave of nausea that eliminated any color that had come to his face when he identified Aimee. He struggled, but kept the pleasant look on his face. He wanted to say that he was fine, not make her worry or crease her brow any further, but he feared that his voice would give away his internal weakness. He did not need a doctor, but he really did appreciate her company, even if it didn't seem so. Matt decided that he should say this to her somehow.
But... How? Matt wasn't exactly a whiz with words. Most of the time, he hardly said anything, But now, in a one on one conversation, he had the opportunity to use his rarely used vocal chords. What sounded casual? 'Thanks for being with me?' NO! That sounded like... like... no. He could not say that! Um... what about 'Thanks for staying with me?' Er, no. It still didn't fit. Matt pondered a moment more, finally coming up with the right line. 'Thanks for taking care of me'. It was considerate, casual, polite. Yes, it was perfect. He opened his mouth to say the planned phrase, but shut it as she spoke once more. He smiled and nodded, color weakly perking in his cheeks and he glanced away in embarrassment. 'Idiot,' he internally cursed towards himself.

| "Wow," she breathed, marvelling slightly at the other teen who appeared to be staring at her. Her overlarge brown eyes only widened more and a delighted smile crossed her face as she searched his blue-violet eyes for an answer to his enraptured gaze, and to join the smile was a tinkling laugh. He's so interesting! Wow, I wonder if he thinks I'm interesting, because he's very interesting, she rambled on in her head about how interesting he was and how lovely it was having a boy's cheeks color even slightly from looking at her. Back in her home, there was a boy who liked her a lot from one of those Middle Eastern countries, but she never really returned his attentive gestures... if anything, they bothered her--chocolates and beautiful gifts alike--though she didn't particularly mind his company. But he too was different from Matt and Al entirely--he was chiding and flamboyant, spending so much money on pointless things that would crack, fade, and sour with time....
But of course, she preferred climbing trees and swimming against her friends to lavish gifts and designer brands of water or something like that.
However, Matthew's mention of her arm brought her back to reality. She watched as his gaze drifted from her face, to her hand, then finally up and stopping at the bend of her elbow where sticky tape residue and dried blood crusted onto her skin closely. She rubbed vaguely at the blood to try and flake some of it off of her frail skin and again laughed quietly. "I don't like the IVs. I go everywhere without the drip anyway, it's not like it's hurting me at all to not have it," Aimee said, though her laughter this time was more detached. Certainly she knew there was some kind of consequence to it, but surely she didn't know the true dangers of opened wounds in 'sterile' hospitals, or even just going without her IV nourishments for too-long periods.
So she returned to smiling amiably at the other, moving one of her hands from her lap and holding lightly to the bar beside his bed so she could at least be able to catch him if she suspected he would fall forward. Aimee had noticed him move, and his face lose color again, but her pleasant expression was matched in his and she felt almost as though there was a silent understanding between the lackadaisical girl and the withdrawn boy--I don't ask you if you don't ask me seemed to ring well enough a bell to her, at least in the context of the situation. So Aimee simply continued to sit with the blonde boy who she was gladly watching over while he continued to decline a doctor's attentions.

| The girl didn't hesitate to meet Matt's stare. Her eyes bore right into his, like she was furrowing deep into his mind. Matt blinked rapidly before shooting his eyes down, to the left. Sure, she was a nice girl and all, but her large brown eyes seemed to pierce his. He knew he was not exactly the most... confident person out there, but he felt intimidated by her gaze. It was like she had infiltrated his mind. And, although it didn't happen, it felt like a physical touch. Matt coughed, clearing his throat. It was impossible. Why did he get that vibe?
He kept his gaze lowered, not meeting hers as she shuffled at the mention of the wound on her hand. As if she didn't want him to notice, she tried to scrub it off quickly, erasing the traces of the injury. Matt merely watched as Aimee laughed, tense and not natural. Not like the singsong giggle she did before. This one was forced. She explained simply, resulting in Matt's mouth tightening to a pressed white line. He was not impressed. The obvious falter in her laughter signified that she didn't entirely believe herself as she spoke. Or, that's what Matt thought. That gave him all the more reason to doubt her reasons. Well, maybe she didn't like IVs, but he didn't know what was wrong with her. Something obviously, because she was here in hospital scrubs, as skinny as a stick.
Matt wanted to know, but he didn't know how to ask. She didn't bring it up either, so it wasn't his right to ask. If she wanted him to know, she would have already told him. she seemed to be a rather outgoing person, so Matt had no doubts that if she wanted him to know something, she'd tell him. But, maybe she didn't want others to worry. She cared for him perhaps to detract the attention and fuss over herself? Matt didn't know. He had too little information to base any assumptions. But she was probably in need of that IV. Or, at least to cover her open injury to prevent infection.
Matt moved to speak when he noticed her mocha fingers curl around the bedside bars. This made him oddly uncomfortable, like he was some.. some... creature to look at. But Aimee didn't seem like that kind of type. He was probably overreacting. It was his tendencies to do that. He wanted to squirm, but he knew better. Any movement reminded him of his weakness, so he laid very still. He knew a doctor would be around sooner than later. He'd wait out the faint-urges until one popped up.
But he really wasn't feeling well. He thought that laying back slightly and ceasing movement would make the urge to vomit go away. But it didn't. It hung around his body like a net, impossible to get rid of. He was stuck in its clutches until something or someone liberated him. He wondered what exactly could be done for him. Maybe they'd give him extra doses of iron or something. He didn't know. He'd read the articles on the blood condition long long ago. And seeing as the iron worked (at least, for a bit), he seemed to forget his disease.
'Maybe... I should get her to call someone...' The boy thought reluctantly, before slowly rejecting the idea. Again, he was stubborn and wouldn't be brought to plead for help. He'd rather pass out before crying like a baby. Which, where this was going, was probably going to happen soon. "S-So you said this place wasn't that bad, r...right? Um.... any other... people our age?" he spoke, voice broken up. He talking before he could think and plan out his words. He didn't want to think. He wanted to get his mind off of the icky-feeling that washed over him. Maybe, if he ignored it, it would go away.

| Kiku hated working with the children. Not becuase he disliked children, he did, in short busts, but becuase it broke his heart to see them. They were always so fragile or so impossibly ressiliant in that way only a child can be. But sometimes he had to work with the children, today was one of those times. He'd had to declare a seven year old with brain stem death brain dead, so that they could use his heart.
Walking by a room, an ajar door caught his eye. On the second look, he saw the bed was dissaranged, and it was empty. His neat-freak side came out a little and he darted in to the room to quickly rearrange the sheets. Splish. Something splashed under his foot and he looked down, lifting his foot up to identify the mysterly liquid. It was clear and well, wet. He noticed, with a jolt of worry, he saw flecks of blood, not much, just a little spattering, but still... he stepped back from the scene to judge the scene. There was an IV drip lying on the bed, slowly dripping on to the floor. There was a film of blood on the intraveneous needle.
Two things came two Kiku's mind in worry... One, there was a great deal of the liquid on the floor - this means the owner of the IV had been gone for a while, and two, the possibility of sepsis or infection from the cut caused by taking out the IV. Most people thought hospitals were clean, but really, they were amongst the most disease ridden places on earth.
He checked the bag on the drip. IV nutrients, not the most urgently needed thing at most, neither was it paticularily a waste of expensive drugs. Still, being without them could be dangerous, but not immediately life-threatening. However, the risk of infection grew greater as the patient spent more time out of his or her bed, with their open wound hanging innocently by their side, or holding someone's hand or brushing up against something contaminated. Maybe the patient was immunocompromised, which would make matters worse.
He checked the name at the end of the bed. Aimee Prideaux. Ah, he had come across Aimee a couple of times lately and he'd had a feeling they would meet more. She was a trouble maker, even if she didn't mean it. She reminded him of himself at her age, actually, insistent there was nothing wrong amd defiant to the treatments given. He hoped she didn't end up like him, still not fully recovered after ten years and severely underweight.
But his first priority was to find Aimee, every moment was another chance to catch an infection, septicimia could set in (not normally a complication of small wounds, but in a hospital it was possible), he needed to clean and dress the wound at the very least. He started to walk around the children's ward until… ah ha! He spotted the unmistakable sight of those jetblack pigtails tied up with red ribbons, it was unmistakable. The was talking to a patient, Alfred, who he had treated once… no wait, that wasn't Alfred… he wondered who it was then. Still, it didn't matter right this moment.
He knocked on the door but didn't wait for a reply before coming in like he normally did, this was too urgent. Who know what lurked in a hospital room? He didn't even know what was wrong with the boy Aimee was talking to. “Prideaux-San,” He said (a little more urgently than intended), coming in to the room and walking over to her, so he could disinfect and bandage the wound. She could continue with her conversation after her arm had been cleaned.
((I hope this doesn't mess anything up but hey, they both need doctors and so if they won't go to the doctor, the doctor must come to them. Please also excuse my sketchy medical knowlege.))

| Aimee still grinned at the ashen-faced boy while they played out their little awkward dance of looks and falling and bloodied arms, simply happy to have his company--which she hoped he was happy to have her company as well, because really, she hated to be a bother, but even more she hated being alone. Plus, it was easier for her to have someone with her in the hospital, and since she didn't have many visitors at all, she had really taken it upon herself to clamber out of her bed and visit friends she'd made, as well as friends she would make with time... but they were all the same to her; she had friends here. And a lot of them.
Even one of the doctors she considered to be her friend! Oh, he was great, he gave her a kitty plush that she clung to at night when it was dark and scary in the room (being afraid of the dark, she almost regretted not having another person in her room), and whenever he saw her he seemed concerned, but first almost sympathetic. In her mind, Aimee didn't have a problem at all, but to other people the way her skin stretched tightly on her bones and the hospital gowns nearly fell off whenever she stood, it was considered quite a potentially lethal situation. Doctor Honda seemed like he recognized both of these things though, even though she had only encountered him a few times, but he was still such a good friend to her.
Friends, friends, friends. Aimee loved friends! And this quiet boy seemed like the perfect type to be her friend. If she ever went into one of the antisocial bouts she had occasionally, she could probably just slip into his room and pull up the very same chair, and just sit with him quietly and allow herself to have the comfort of being near someone without the necessity of words and conversation. The thought made her laugh quietly again to herself.
Oooh, but her lovely new friend was talking again! His voice was so soft and nice to listen to, just perfectly lovely and gentle, and Aimee removed her hand from the bar beside his bed to clap her thin hands together enthusiastically. Just as she opened her mouth to answer, there was the urgent "Prideaux-san," that caught in her ears, and she beamed at Matthew again before turning to see the doctor.
"Hi, Doctor Honda! Wow, why are you here to see me? I'm visiting my new friend, see?" Aimee said happily, gesturing just vaguely with her still lightly bleeding arm at the pale boy who laid in front of her. "His name's Matt, and I'm soooo happy that I have a new friend! He's just lovely, but I think he needs to be checked on, but he tells me he doesn't." Aimee was a rambler, which she was almost sure people had figured out by now, but she only continued to smile happily at the fact that she could brag about having a new friend.

| Aimee seemed to find Matt's awkwardness amusing. Here she stood, grinning wildly at him as he mentally squirmed. He wanted to just hide from her! She just stared at him with the big brown eyes! They never faltered! Never weakened! Matt was used to people going silent around him, but not like this. It was like they were still engaged in conversation, though silent. She, though unknowingly, had him wrapped around her finger. He wasn't used to the outgoing type and he really didn't know what to do.
All Matt's friends (which were not numerous), were like him. Antisocial. Quiet. Shy. Outcasts. Yes he was aware of the other types of people out there. He'd seen the preps, the jocks, and even the 'popular' kids, but had he spoken to them? Not really. Even the nerds were more social than he was. The most speaking that Matt ever accomplished in front of people were during presentations. Even then, people would chatter and whine, stating that they couldn't hear him. It was an embarrassment to read aloud, so Matt never did.
Aimee was the first person that had struck up a conversation with Matt in a long, long time. And as awkward as it was, the boy could feel a little peace resting. He had felt invisible before. Like he would literally fade away. He went unnoticed every day of his life, even by his parents. Parents... did they know he was here? They must have. The hospital or school would have phoned them. But waking up without them here was disappointing. However, Aimee lessoned that. In about five minutes, she had paid more attention to him than anyone in school had for the past year. Even if he hated hospitals, her company was a gift.
Aimee's laughter broke his sappy thought train, as she watched him speak with content. Did she enjoy watching him speak? He was actually surprised that she could hear him clearly. Most people did not.
She leaved back slightly, removing her hands from Mattie's 'cage' bars to clap them together quietly, but eagerly. She opened her mouth to reply, but was interrupted. Matt's gaze peeled away from her to the man who entered. A whitecoat, aka, Doctor.
Matt's first reaction was to tense up, which he did. His eyes that were always finding the floor, now were locked on the young man. He couldn't be that old, not that it mattered. In fact, it made Mattie feel a tad better knowing the Doctor wasn't too far from his age. He had dark ebony hair and deep brown eyes. Though the doctor's coat was baggy, it was still noticeable that the man was thin. He had said something that Matt didn't understand, earning a look of confusion as Aimee responded.
The girl seemed to know the man comfortably, as she casually chatted with him. Normal people would talk about themselves, but Aimee just had to include Matt. The blond broke his stare at the doctor, turning his head the opposite way. He clenched his hands in the blanket that pooled around his waist. He didn't exactly know why he was so uptight/upset, but he was. Why was Aimee... he looked back, eyes low as curls shielded his forward. His eyes were on Aimee once more. Was he upset that this doctor came in, because he discovered Aimee? Once more, Matt wasn't sure what was wrong with her, but it was probably serious. This doctor was probably going to send her back. And Matt was enjoying her company. He battled his stomach sickness and sat up shakily, proving that he was alright. He looked over at the girl, forcing a smile.

| Kiku couldn't help a little smile at her vivacious enthusiasm. “Hai, I'm glad you made a friend,” He said softly, glancing over at the boy momentarily, who appeared to be doing all he could to dissapear in to thin air without actually leaving his bed. “But Prideaux-San,” He would introduce himself to the boy in a few moments, after he had dealt with the reason he actually came in here for. He lightly gripped Aimee's forearm and lifted it up to display the cut, “You took your IV out.” He frowned and attempted a chiding tone, though he was sure he wasn't very good at it,
“It's not very safe to walk around a hospital with an open wound, for you or anyone else,” He explained, taking out an antibacterial wipe and cleaning the wound. “For example, blood can carry all sorts of viruses. Imagine if a patient was bleeding in the halls and they were carrying hepatitis or AIDS? Although that doesn't nessesarily apply to you but it's a general rule we must uphold. But when you walk around with an open cut, you're more susseptible to pick up infections. Hospitals are full of sick people, they're not that clean.” He wrapped gauze tightly around the wound to bandage it and pinned it together. “I understand why you did it though, I did the same thing when I was in hospital, but it nearly killed me too.” Collapsing in the hospital hallway… waking up attatched to a respirator after having a massive blood transfusion, because he had contracted septicimia after ripping his IV out. Which was why he was worried about Aimee doing the same.
Oh no, had he just told them that? He blushed and stuttered and fidgited, dropping Aimee's now bandaged arm. He turned to the boy, “Konnichiwa, Honda-Kiku desu,” He bowed politely to him, forgetting his English momentarily in his embarassed stutter, “What's your name?” He asked, trying to distract from his earlier comment.

| "I'm happy too! It's sooo interesting, he sounds so much like the other boy I sit with whenever he talks! I can't do that, my voice sounds French, unless I'm speaking Manda--hm? Oh, I did! Yes, yes I did, you're right," she said, laughing softly as the topic was brought back to herself. But she winced a little as he cleaned the small cut with the wipe (and of course the lecture, because she didn't like lectures).
She pouted a little as it only continued, feeling vaguely embarrassed that her new friend had to listen when she was in trouble. Normally she got in trouble for silly things, like climbing on the counters and not being ladylike rather than, well, putting her life in danger. "But Doctor Hondaaa... no one in the children's ward has AIDS, or Hepatitis! One of the boys has Leukemia, but I'm not visiting with him right now, see? And I don't think Matye has AIDS, I've seen many people with it back home and visiting other countries around where I come from." Sure, she understood what he was getting at, but it still gave her incentive to whine a little.
--Oh? Oh dear.... "You almost died because you took your IV nutrients out? Wow, that's really scary! But you're okay now!" Aimee said, cheeks coloring with more embarrassment now--she really had made a serious misstep if the doctor was telling them bits about his own past. But now she was clean and tightly covered where the hole was, and soon it would heal over, and the IV would probably just go into her other arm instead. But she grinned again as he addressed Matthew, turning back to the Canadian with the same excited, shining eyes as before.
"I'm all better now, oui? Now we can make sure you're okay, Matt! How lovely, but I'm sure you're okay enough that I won't have to leave. Right, Doctor Honda?" Aimee asked, only vaguely glancing over at the Japanese doctor while she drew her legs up into the seat and hugged them, placing her chin on her knees delicately and settling on watching the exchange with her huge eyes. Really, she would be so upset if she had to leave, especially since she was all patched up and basically given the okay to stay with the Canadian without her nourishments.

| Kiku thought for a moment, listening to her plea and sighed, “Alright, you can stay.” He said, “If you do one thing for me, I'll let you stay until curfew.” He put his hand in to his pocket and pulled out a small pill box. “Take these, they're nutrients.” He tipped the pills in to his hand and reeled of the names of each nutrient. He had always preffered nutrients in pill form, they were less obvious and easier to control. He carried them around all the time in case of a relapse, which would usually last a few days. Though he had preffered them as a teenager because he learned a trick where he could supress his gag reflex and keep it in the back of his throat until the doctors left.
But he wouldn't let Aimee pretend not to swallow (not that he thought she had the talent to trick doctors in to thinking that she had, just yet). He found the pills less obtrusive than the IV, so he hoped she would too, it was a good compromise. He should keep the tablets in the staff room, but nobody knew he was on-off annorexic, he didn't make it obvious — he had been doing it for ten years, if he wasn't good at hiding it by now, he wouldn't be.
“I can get you water if you need it.” He insisted. “And the bottles, but they're all over the counter drugs, you could buy them all yourself if you went in to Walgreens or somewhere similar.

| (( I am sooo sorry! I had a chemistry test and was studying! I'll try to make up for my absence in this post))
Matt couldn't help but sink a little inside when Aimee stated that he sounded like some other boy. It wasn't the fact that he was jealous or heartbroken or anything though. It was merely because he felt like a replacement. Someone who sounded like another. Was that why Aimee didn't want to leave? Because he was a glimmer of familiarity of her life outside of the hospital? Matt glanced down, discouraged. That was all he ever seemed to be, even in a new place. Just a lookalike, or in this case, sound alike.
Matt watched as Aimee was lectured by the young doctor. Perhaps he didn't like disciplining others, because his voice wasn't very authoritative. Regardless, Mattie knew better than to defy a doctor's orders. He could only hope that Aimee was aware of these things too. But, apparently she didn't as she mildly countered, stating that no children in this area had these illnesses. Matt could have smacked his head. Duh! He was still a child, by law. Seventeen and a half wasn't enough to stick him in the adult's area. Regardless, he did prefer Aimee's company, regardless if he was just a replacement.
But, even though no children had these illnesses (Matt was reminded because Aimee was still chattering away about it), that didn't mean that she couldn't get them. Like said before, hospitals were a hot zone for disease. Matt was no dummy, he had done his research. Hospitals harbored such dangerous bacteria, resistant to regular antibodies that could kill a healthy young man. For instance, if the operating room was not absolutely clean, a basketball player having knee surgery could die from a bacteria infection that couldn't be treated. It had happened before. And these rooms and halls certainly weren't as sterile as the operating table. It was perfectly logical for Aimee to pick up a stray disease. And unlike others, she looked frail and thin. If a young, healthy man couldn't best one of these superbugs, how was Aimee supposed to?
Needless to say, Matt was glad that Aimee's small cut was bandaged and cleaned. But what really shocked Mattie was when Doctor Honda, the incredibly intelligent sounding doctor, said he did the same as a kid. What?! He was confined to a hospital too?! For what?! Aimee responded before he could (not that he would know what to say...), talking about some sort of nutrients. Matt blinked, curiosity prodded. IV Nutrients? He had never heard of such a thing. What were they for? Was it to help them gain weight? But... that didn't tell Matt what exactly was wrong with them. Was there an underlying disease? He didn't know! The two continued the conversation about 'Nutrients' and such, not hinting any other disease. Was the thinness the problem? Anorexia? Matt couldn't be sure, as they dropped no more clues to him. He sighed to himself, still confused until he was addressed by Aimee, asking if he was okay. The Canadian then did something to remove suspicious from his odd paleness.
He hitched his breath in his throat and tightened his diaphragm. It was like he was trying to force air from his chest, but closed the back of his throat to hold it inside. Why? Simple. Matt didn't look well because he was so white. So by doing so, he was flushing blood in his cheeks and face. But because Matt's complexion was less than normal and his blood was not as red as it could be, it only pushed enough color in his face to not seem suspicious. He nodded with a small smile to Aimee, trying his best to not gag from the induced nausea. He didn't trust speaking, as it was his breath that brought color to his cheeks. He'd have to bluff his health for now.

| Aimee looked from Matt, to Kiku, then to her bandaged arm and grinned widely. "Pill nutrients? You mean it doesn't have needles?" she asked excitedly, reaching for the pills that would restore some of her health without any need for weight gain--it would keep at least one doctor happy. Plus, it wasn't like she couldn't just feign a stomachache and vomit them later--all she needed was a few large gulps of water, enough to make her feel overwhelmed, and she had it. But for now, she graciously took the nutrients as he described each one, popped it in her mouth, and swallowed the little pills of nutrition.
"Oooh, water? Lovely, yes please! I would love some water, yes, I like water," she said, beaming at the doctor again with the sunniest smile she could manage. "Yes, yes water please, Doctor Honda!" She was careful to ignore the suggestion of the pills.
She again hugged her scrawny legs close to herself and this time tilted her head to the side, resting her cheek on her bony knees this time. She again surveyed the pale boy carefully, though this time her gaze was more calm and subdued. He was so nice looking, and he wasn't like any other friends she had--certainly he looked similar to the American boy, but the quietness and illness (whatever he was suffering from) seemed so different to the American boy. She wondered if Matthew was even American--sure, his accent was similar, but she still wondered...
And there he was giving himself color. Oh, she was well aware of this, because she was well accustomed to taking measures to make herself seem more healthy. But Aimee smiled back almost serenely and muttered something to herself, just laughing quietly as she continued to quietly admire the teen. She was just soooo happy to have two friends with her! But really, she was quite enjoying herself before Doctor Honda had entered, and while she certainly did enjoy his presence, she was finally hearing little things about him and she was enjoying herself so much because oh she just loved new friends, and this new friend was so charming and just positively lovely!
"If you don't breathe, you'll just faint again," she whispered quietly, hoping it only reached her lovely friend, so that the doctor could not hear her advising Matthew.

| Kiku was somewhat mollified by the fact that she had taken the pills, though if he wanted to be certian that she kept them down he would have to wait with her for a while, good thing his break had started. “Arigato, Prideaux-San,” He said with a small bow, then turned to her friend, giving him another bow. He was holding his breath for some reason, probably trying to put colour in his face, and had something mumbled to him conspiratorally by Aimee.
Kiku didn't really care. Not to sound calloused, but this was a hospital, of course people were sick, to worry about a patient who was pale, well, he would be doing a lot of worrying, wouldn't he? He didn't flinch every time he saw Aimee's skinny body or an amputee because he had learned long ago that feeling worried and sorry for people was not helping him treat them. Best to shut off his emotion and help them get better. Of course, he could never get rid of his emotions completely, but fear and guilt clouded a doctor's mind, he couldn't stop giving a patient a life saving treatment simply because it was painful, the patient had to get better.
“Please let go of your breath, sir,” He requested softly, “You're not doing anyone any favours by holding it.” He explained, picking up the chart at the end of the bed. Aplastic anemia, quite severe too. Strange that he hadn't had it treated properly… well, he probably didn't like hospitals, so coming in every week for a regular blood transfusion probably wasn't an attractive prospect. Much easier to self medicate with iron pills, even though iron only treated one form of anemia.
“Are you feeling alright?” Certianly he didn't look alright, his facial expression was somewhat pained and there was a thin sheen of sweat on his face. “Because I can alleviate some of the superficial symptoms, if you would like. I could get you a painkiller or something to stop nausia if you need it,” He wanted to try and make the boy, he glanced down at the sheet, Matthew, as comfortable as possible, it was his job. “Don't worry,” He assured, “You'll feel better soon, just as soon as the blood transfuses.” He motioned to the IV by his bed and attempted a comforting smile. At least Matthew looked like he had enough sense (or too frail a body) to not take the IV out.
(( Oh my god, Matthew, my medical dictionary says that you only have a 25% chance of recovery! TT_TT and don't worry about your chemistry exam, I have one on Monday I have to study for too :S ))

| Matt glanced at Aimee, eyes slightly guarded as she warned him to take breaths. She didn't understand. Yes, Matt's little act was childish and stubborn, but he was doing it so they could continue to visit. Deep down, Matt was well aware of how much he needed a doctor. Yet here he was, trying to trick one away. Dr. Honda however, saw right through everything. Matt's mood soured as he was treated like a toddler. A small, defiant part inside him told him to continue the act just to defy the man, but Matt slowly obeyed. With control (and defeat), the blond silently and slowly released the pent up Carbon Dioxide from his lungs. The color in his face faded, but a slight red hue lingered. This was not do to the holding of his breath. The flushed color was because Matt felt terribly embarrassed to be so easily caught by not one, but both people in the room. He looked away, shoulders tense. He just wanted to hide. Flee. Get out of here.
“Are you feeling alright?”
Matt didn't respond physically, continuing to look away and avoid eye contact. 'Do I look fine? I am in a hospital...' Matt thought, mood still sore from the previous turn in events. Though, he knew he couldn't say that. His personality as well as his wisdom held back his tongue. Regardless, he felt himself slowly roll back. He had sat up earlier, and without the defiant side of him kicking in, he was unable to hold himself up. Similar to how he had actually landed in this hospital. That small, defiant piece pushing him to compete in the laps in gym. When no one noticed, that edgy persona slipped and he passed out. And here, where that same emotion faded, his strength did too.
Of course, he didn't fall this time. Just slowly rocked back onto the propped pillows. Still keeping both eyes firmly glued to the bottom right corner of his eyes (in his sights, the floor beside his bed), he debated the offer. The doctors words didn't exactly make sense. A painkiller for nausea? He was sure there was something that could lift his queasiness, but painkillers? To lift this nausea spell, he'd need a strong one. And in the past, he had seen the effect of painkillers on a person. While in Canada, his cousin had gotten hit by a car when on a snowmobile. His cousin broke his leg in 8 places, as well as his collarbone and was heavily medicated. The things that spewed from his mouth were really out there. If Aimee was to stick around after Matt was injected, he could not control what he'd say. In fact, he wouldn't even remember anything of it! Matt would take his chances.
Then this doctor tried to 'sooth' him by telling him that... he was getting... a blood transfusion. Matt's focused gaze broke, snapping to the doctors, before lowing to his IV. Not that he had paid attention before, but he thought it was a general Isotonic solution that would keep him hydrated, not blood! Matt had never had a transfusion! He had just had blood taken once by some amateur doctor and was slapped with the label 'Anemiac' and given iron. Matt was dumbstruck. In fact, so surprised that he quietly (as he was always quiet) blurted out,
"...What?"
Matt never blurted out of turn. But the silence that had fell perhaps suggested that it was his turn to speak. Regardless, Matt always thought before speaking. always planned his steps before taking one. He realized after how ridiculous the question was, but his eyes remained on the needle furrowed in his skin. Someone else's blood was being placed within him? What... This wasn't... What about... the iron... Matt blinked, swallowing the information. Was he even an anemiac? He shifted his gaze away, staring down at the covers in front of him. He didn't want to talk anymore, at least, right now. He wanted to know exactly what was going on.
[Ugh, post-o-fail. And technically, at this point in Mattie's illness, he probably would be alive. Let's just say he's a rare/lucky victim. And good luck~!]

| “What?” Matthew seemed so shocked, staring at him with such a look of confusion and almost horror.
Kiku paused, didn't Matthew understand his disease? Surely his doctor had explained it… “You have aplastic or really severe hypoplastic anemia.” He explained, “That means the bone marrow doesn't regenerate the red blood cells. The only way to treat it is blood transfusions or a bone marrow transplant. Only microcytic hypochronic anaemia is treated by iron pills, it's the most common, but not the only type.” he said softly, “There's actually five different types, iron deficiency anemia, which is what people usually mean when they say anemia, megoblastic hyperchromic anemia, aplasic anemia, which is what you have, haemolytic anemia and genetic anemia, the most commonly know of which being sickle cell.” he recited mechanically, paraphrasing the text book. “Didn't anybody tell you?”
He was shocked, where had he found out he was anemic but didn't know which type? “You're actually very lucky to be alive. How long has this been going untreated?”

| [I'll go now since this post seems to be directed towards me]
“You have aplastic or really severe hypoplastic anemia.”
But... what did that mean?! Matt wanted clear, precise answers, those that Dr. Honda instantly replied with.
“That means the bone marrow doesn't regenerate the red blood cells. The only way to treat it is blood transfusions or a bone marrow transplant."
The rest of the info washed over Matt, like a wave going over a rock. He really didn't care that much about the other types of anemia. Sure, he had googled them before, but not to the extent of being a doctor, nor did he have the types memorized. But the meaning sounded so familiar. In fact, the words seemed to cause Matt's insides to turn cold. Aplastic anemia.... Aside from Sickle Cell anemia, where the blood cells were irregularly shaped and damaged organs from the inside, aplastic anemia was definitely one of the more sever types. And from the sounds of Dr. Honda's summery of it, iron did diddly squat. So essentially, Matt had been going untreated with a sever disease for an extensive amount of time. As well, the iron that he took could have built up and acted against him.
Matt's face paled. It was fortunate that he was already sprawled back on the pillows. Had he been sitting up or dancing, he would have fallen. He merely stared at the doctor, mortified. "N-no..." he whispered to answer his question. He had never actually been informed. He was just told that he had anemia. Simply anemia. Nothing... serious. Nothing life threatening. What if... what if he died?! What if it was too late for treatment?!
Matt's breath caught as the doctor put forth another question. His mouth went dry as he thought briefly about it. He had to tally up the months and such, put as he raised his wide eyes to the whitecoat, he barely was able to say, "Three years..."

| Three years... Matthew had gone with untreated anemia for three years? Three months would shock him, but three years was completely illogical. "How?" he muttered to himself without really thinking. He looked up and smiled, "Well, you're very lucky... but your condition seems to have deteriorated, I'm afraid," he apologised, "But you should get better now." He tried to encourange, "A bone marrow transplant is a last resort but it's a possibility that you might have to get one in the future." Wait, he wasn't Matthew's doctor, his actual doctor should be telling him about this, not him... "But I'm sure your doctor will explain more later." He gave a polite smile and put the chart back on the end of the bed.
"Would you like me to say for a while?" He asked on a whim. Yes, becuase he had nothing better to do in his break than to stay with two sick teenagers. Still, he had to make sure Aimee kept the nutrients down. Even if she didn't force herself to be sick by agitaiting her gag reflex, it was easy to make a malnourished person sick with just a few too many gulps of water. Aimee wouldn't get away with it, Kiku knew all the tricks, much more than any doctor could ever hope to find out from a book. Just becuase Kiku used to be (and occasionally still was) annorexic didn't mean he was sympathetic to the plight of others.
Briefly, he wondered if Aimee had been to see a psycologist yet. They were probably wating for her health to improve. Well, he knew much about the wasted hours spent at the psycologist being asked about why he felt the need to starve himself. He hated psycologists, they did nothing for someone like him who just needed control over their life which was spiralling out with expectations and work and older children... he hoped he hadn't shown all his emotion on his face...

| The look on the whitecoat's face made Matthew's stomach churn. It was not a look of good measures. It was a look of shock, possibly horror. Mon Dieu, Matthew thought to himself, snapping two wide eyes down. His hands found each other as he began to intertwine them and unlace them. Twiddling thumbs, clasping his fingers, anything. He focused on a different motion to ease his worry. But the doctor seemed optimistic. He told Matt that he'd be okay. Even if his anemia had gone on this long, he'd be okay. Matt looked up through his thick lenses at the man. Was this the truth? Matt held his gaze for a long time, searching those dark brown eyes for a hint of betrayal. The man was reserved, but he didn't seem fake. And he didn't seem to sugarcoat it. He laid out the facts, plain as day.
And as much as the bone marrow transplant scared Matt, Dr. Honda didn't state he'd be getting one for sure. Matt didn't know why, but he felt a growing trust. This man knew what he was doing. Like, spot on the nose. Matt's trust in doctor's wasn't exactly stable, but this Japanese man was the closest that Matt had ever got. Dr. Honda, for just dipping in, clarified most, if not all of Matt's questions.
And then he talked about Matt's 'real' doctor. Dr. Honda wasn't his specified doctor? Matthew's spirits sank. So, he'd be paired with someone else? Matt broke eye contact once again. "O..oui..." he uttered, voice barely more audible than a whisper. Why was he feeling down? Surely there were other perfectly qualified people here that could help, right? What was it about this man? Was it the fact that he was the first to lay out all the cards on the table? Was it because he was closer to Matt's and Aimee's age in comparison to most of these men? Matt couldn't pinpoint it. Dr. Honda may have been...what was the word... blunt, but Matt felt... très détendu avec cet homme. Matt blinked, realizing that he was going off the English Tangent in his mind, something he tended to do when lost in thought. He tried to shake the thoughts, return to the world around him.
There was one more question lingering in Matt's head. 'How long do I have?' or, 'What are my chances?'
It would be very difficult to answer that, if the doctor was ever permitted to say such things. As well, Aimee was here. Matt wouldn't ask, just due to the fact that the girl might be bothered if Matt's chances weren't high. Doctor Honda said Matt would get better, but the Canadian was not stupid. There was always a chance that they would not survive. Always. But the boy would refrain and hold the inquiry for another time. Right now, he just sat stone still, watching the people around him in silence.

| (( Sorry, I don't knw why my reply took this long... OTL))
It was strange, there seemed to be a strange change in demeanour when he had spoken. It hadn't been because he was learning about his condition — they had been doing that for a few minutes and the change had just happened. It was… odd, to say the least. It was as if he had become even more despondent.
He sat down quietly to wonder, letting there be a slightly uncomfortable silence for a few minutes. He licked his lips thoughtfully, looking down at his hands. There wasn't much about him that indicated how unwell he had been as a child... nothing obvious, at least. A little shorter than average, quite thin, though not obviously so, it fit him in any case. Or at least, he thought it did, but he supposed he wasn't the best person to judge.
Matthew looked afraid, and it struck Kiku that he hadn't asked that question. The dreaded lawsuit question. How long do I have? A perfectly fair question, if he had a potentially lethal ilness he would want to know what time he had left too, but they weren't really able to answer it properly. And people tended to get upset if a doctor overestimates or underestimates. If he tells someone they'll probably be dead next tuesday then he better be die on Tuesday, or it's claimed to be incompetent. Such a difficult question to answer without upsetting someone.
He put a hand on Matthew's pillow, the closest he got to intimate contact with a patient, he wasn't one of those doctors that held the patient's hand or put a hand on their shoulder, and besides, Aimee seemed to have that covered anyway. He looked seriously at Matthew, though not harshly, more concerned, “Williams-San.” He said quietly, “Is everything alright?” Silly question, he knew, but what else to say? 'Are you afraid you're going to die?' how tactless. “You can talk to me about anything that's troubling you. I'm a doctor, I'm here to help.” he did, he tried his best to help any patient he met, like Aimee, whether or not he was actually their doctor.

| [ Background music] Matt was rather oblivious to Kiku's small action as silence enveloped the room. But Matt's mind was anything but quiet. 'What if I die? I'm only a kid! I've never seen a live polar bear! I've never been to Nunavut. I... I.... what if.... I die?'A weight sat on Matt's chest, making it hard to breathe. Was he panicking? Probably. The boy closed his eyes, locking away his surroundings as his vision went black. He had to calm himself, respectively. He made a big enough idiot of himself today. He didn't want to embarrass himself further. He clicked his jaw together and clenched until it ached, clearing his head. Pain always seemed to work. Slowly releasing the tension, Matt tried to settle his inner conflicts. Opening his eyes, he looked over at the doctor and the girl who took it up on herself to help him. He held their gazes for a while, switching between them every few seconds, before letting his mauve eyes fall to his lap. Doctor Honda was just a medical professional and Matt was just another patient. That relationship was practically spelled out. Aimee however, was here on her own free will, trying to make conversation with Matt. and even if he were just a replacement for some friend she had, it was nice. Nice to have someone care. Matt met her brown eyes once more, a silent appreciation softening his gaze. It was the movement at Matt's side that startled him. Matt turned a little to quick to see the dark-haired man nearby, pricking Matt's unease. Such a silly thing he felt. This doctor, though he was a whitecoat, was clearly trying to help in some way. Or... Matt hoped. Matt paused, considering asking him but he refrained. Aimee was nearby. If the percent of survival was low, it might upset her (Matt could hope that she'd care enough to actually be upset). Matt had a feeling that he wasn't... that he would... well, that his chances were reduced because he had gone so long with the untreated illness. Three long years... Dr. Honda's voice brought Matt out of another memory relapse. Doctor, here to help. Matt broke eye contact. He didn't trust doctors. He didn't trust Kiku. He kept his eyes down as he quietly said, "Could I have some water?" After being so dreary, Matt looked to see Aimee caught up in this mess of things. Well, his secret 'illness' was out of the bag, and i still didn't seem right to ask of hers, so Matt merely offered a small smile, trying to look a step above depressed. [Another post-o-fail. | Aimee had been sitting in an almost dead silence, the only sounds from her those of soft inhalations and exhalations, the awkward feeling around herself only growing as she heard more and more of this conversation. Aplastic anemia? Hypoplastic anemia? She felt...uncomfortable and as though she was listening in on a conversation she ought not to. She felt...ill. Her stomach churned with the acids and what little pills that were disintegrating in her belly, threatening to come up as gross bile, and not entirely because she wasn't accustomed to consuming much of anything--especially now that she was in the hospital, being fed intravenously.
She stared back at him every time his gaze met her own with overlarge, dazed eyes. There wasn't really anything but emptiness and something akin to being lost in thought--like the thoughts were moving too quickly or too slowly to even register in the African's mind. Aimee was listening to a protected secret, that she would've wanted him telling her, not hearing by accident while the doctor spoke. She needed to get out, she needed to, she would cry if he asked that question she knew would come, because she was progressively growing more upset as the conversation wore on.... But still she found herself sitting in the seat, knees close to her chest, pressed tightly with thin around around her legs, holding them there.
But finally he looked at her again, and his gaze softened, and she felt herself fade out of the carefully crafted mask of her blank expression, and let her head tilt just so. 'It's okay, I can go if you want,' was what she wished she could communicate. Aimee knew that being between a doctor and oneself, it was generally an incredibly private and uncomfortable ordeal...and she was intruding upon it, almost. How...unfitting.
